Our Marriage
We met during college. We believe that our relationship was meant to be because our time there only overlapped by one term. As it turned out, we developed a friendship during our brief time at school together and then maintained a long-distance ( Maine and Illinois to Alabama) relationship through letters and phone calls for the next three years. We feel that this time apart forced us to learn about each other and develop a strong friendship and romance. After graduation, we found jobs in the same city and had a more traditional dating relationship during the rest of our engagement. We married on May 28, 1994.
The last fifteen years have been wonderful. We truly are best friends and love to spend time together. We communicate well, and any differences are resolved quickly. The peace and harmony in our marriage comes from a willingness to listen to needs of the other, share, and make compromises.
Our common interests include family and friends, church, and travel. As a couple, we are very supportive of each other’s activities, but we also recognize the need to maintain our individual interests as well and allow each other time for that. We believe that this balance helps us to be happy, active, dynamic, and well-rounded parents.
